BIOGRAPHY
Luke Baker, from Houston, TX, is the Principal Horn of the Kyushu Symphony Orchestra, based in Fukuoka, Japan. Luke received his Master of Music from the Yale School of Music and his Bachelor of Music from the Meadows School of the Arts at SMU. His previous teachers include William Purvis, Greg Hustis, Haley Hoops, Gavin Reed, and Holley Linder. Luke has performed as principal horn with the Hyogo Performing Arts Center Orchestra, KBS Korean Broadcasting Orchestra, Sun Symphony Orchestra, Kobe City Chamber Orchestra, Fort Wayne Philharmonic, and Annapolis Symphony Orchestra. His orchestral appearances also include The Orchestra Now, Allentown Symphony Orchestra, New World Symphony, Yale Philharmonia, National Repertory Orchestra, Music Academy of the West Orchestra, Round Top Festival Orchestra, Texas Music Festival Orchestra, Houston Youth Symphony, Virtuosi of Houston, and American Festival for the Arts Orchestra. Luke was named the 1st Prize winner of the International Horn Competition of America - University Division in 2017, as well as of the Meadows Undergraduate Concerto Competition in 2014. He was also a finalist in the 2018 International Horn Symposium Premiere Solo Competition and runner-up in the 2011 American Festival for the Arts Young Artist Competition. While Luke enjoys playing in large orchestras, he has a passion for solo performance and chamber music. When Luke is not playing the horn, he enjoys skiing, rock-climbing, and social dancing.
